When we were getting rid of all our possessions, the toughest were Lilia’s things. You always want your kid to be happy, right?
So when we were sorting things out, we would fill up 3 different boxes:
Things to take
Things to leave at grandma and grandad's (very limited)
Things to sell/give away

And we did this exercise several times until she was left with one box of things.

Our fondest memory during this period is when one day, she picked up a big boxful of toys and said: “this is for the children in Morocco who don’t hava any toys”
Lilia has her own space in the campervan to access all her things and this is what she chose:

Toys

Lunii story box and headphones

Now this one is a life saver. We try to avoid screen time as much as possible and this is a great alternative. You can download as many stories as you want (some are free, some you have to pay for – great birthday gifts from grandparents if they are far away :-) ). You can even record your own stories. Lilia listens to it while we are driving, before she sleeps…all the time!

7 soft toys

Well obvious choice for a child. They live on her bed and don’t weigh anything.

A small box of toys

This is her “stuff” box. She has some My Little Pony figurines, a Lego campervan…and bits and blobs she finds.

Games

Smart Games

This is another favourite. The logic game hardly takes up any space and Lilia can play alone or with us. Hours of fun!

Uno

The classic game provides hours of fun for the whole family! It’s simple enough for small children to understand but still fun enough for adults not to get bored quickly.

Dominoes

I guess you all know this classic :-)

Diamoniak

The classic game provides hours of fun for the whole family! It’s simple enough for small children to understand but still fun enough for adults not to get bored quickly.

And if you aren’t a big fan of princesses, there is also a pirate version!

Books

Lilia LOVES reading so books were non negociable. We tried to bring a mix of English, French and Arabic so we can vary. Here are some of her favourites:

Le Kididoc autour du monde

Bienvenue chez nous. A la rencontre des enfants du monde.

SCHOOL

Lilia’s kind teacher prepared lots of exercises for her to do during our trip. So we brought them, some exercise books, her pencils and markers, letters to learn to read and write…

“Lilia’s school exercises”

“Some of Lilia’s stories and activity books in English”

“Lilia’s activity books in Dutch”
