Two months in
Two months in…
This may sound ridiculous but I am already worried about going back to our sedentary life (ok people who know me and know how much I worry won’t be that surprised).
It’s just that I love this life. It is not easy every day and has its challenges that living in a house/appartement doesn’t bring. When you wonder whether you will have enough water to either do the washing up or have a shower, when you can’t find a place to empty the toilet and it’s about to overflow (and you are about to faint from the smell) you really bless the fact of just having to turn a tap on and water magically appears.
But despite having to be organised for that, we can be disorganised for everything else and just follow our guts.
Being able to wake up in the morning and speak to complete strangers who are also traveling while still wearing my pyjamas is priceless. And nobody really cares.
Another benefit of this trip is having deep conversations with people we have barely met, feeling close because of the unspoken bond of being on the road together.
Last week, we met a lovely Englishman who normally lives in Algarve but has been travelling in his campervan for 18 months. He told us that what we were doing for Lilia was amazing and the most valuable life lesson.
We can also see this in Lilia’s comments. A few days ago, we were driving along and Lilia said “if we see somebody without a house, we should take them with us so they can have somewhere to sleep.”
A couple of days ago, we arrived at a beach full of rubbish and Lilia decided that we should pick it up. Two bags full of rubbish later, I was never more proud of her.
We may be making mistakes but when we hear things like that, I am convinced that we must be doing at least something right.
